London expansion for little Waitrose

15 February, 2013

Up to 10 new little Waitrose outlets for London in 2013.

Waitrose has revealed plans to push its convenience store format, little Waitrose, in London throughout 2013, including the opening of up to 10 new stores.

The supermarket firm said the new little Waitrose stores will double the retailer’s existing presence in the convenience store sector within the capital.

In addition, Waitrose has plans to open one of its full-sized supermarkets in Greenwich in the summer as part of the New Capital Quay Development.

The company has said its London expansion plan will help to create up to 700 jobs in the next 12 months.

Nigel Keen, director of development at Waitrose, said: “London is an important part of our heritage and this is another major milestone for our business. It demonstrates our ambition to continue increasing our presence and improving our accessibility to those in the capital who wish to shop with us.”

Waitrose currently operates 36 UK sites under its little Waitrose convenience store format, with the latest opening in January in Clapham Common, south London.
