Brockleby’s Organic Melton Mowbray Pork Pie has scooped an accolade in the Local Foods category at the Quality Food Awards in London.

Based in Asfordby Hill, Melton Mowbray, in Leicestershire, the company reached the number one spot with its pork pie - the only organic Melton Mowbray Pork Pie around.

The product, which now has protected geographical status under EU law, is made with Saddleback Pork sourced from a farm in Hathern, Leicestershire. The pastry is made from flour ground at Whissendine Windmill, in Leicestershire. The judges said: “The ingredients list is impressively organic and good on provenance. An organic pork pie is an innovative product, and with this integrity and the provenance of the ingredients established it should do well.” Ian Jalland, Brockleby’s owner commented: “We are incredibly pleased to win this award which is highly prized throughout the food industry. It’s a product we’re very proud of.”
