Chalk Hills Bakery accelerates business

20 January, 2012

Chalk Hills Bakery has won Surrey’s Local Business Accelerators (LBA) competition.

LBA is a nationwide competition being run by local newspapers, in conjunction with the Newspaper Society. Its aim is to help promising fledgling businesses increase their achievements with professional support from a local business mentor.

Chalk Hills’ local paper, the Surrey Mirror, supported the initiative with free advertising for the business for an agreed period of time.

The initiative has been backed by Prime Minister David Cameron, the Confederation of British Industry, and the Business Growth Fund. Dragon’s Den star Deborah Meaden is also an ambassador for the scheme.

Up to 1,000 small businesses across England have entered the competition, with one firm to be crowned overall winner later this year. They will then receive mentoring from Meaden.

Chris Robinson, who owns Chalk Hills Bakery with his wife Rosie, said: “We are so pleased to have won this competition, especially in the current economic climate. We believe our business has potential for growth and we are delighted to have the opportunity to work with Mike Dove, our local mentor and entrepreneur, and the Surrey Mirror over the coming months.”
