McDonald, who has worked for the AB Mauri yeast business for the past 14 years, will take charge of bakery ingredients and yeast sales in Ireland. Previously Cereform’s business controller in Ireland for the past 10 years, he will be supported by business development manager John Carty in his new role.
Andrew Pollard, managing director of AB Mauri UK & Ireland, said: “The recent merging of Mauri Products and Cereform in both the UK and Ireland regions are crucial to ensuring professional support to the hard-pressed baking industry. Damien is old-school bakery through and through and understands the baker’s needs. He is the perfect man to head our sales operation for the merged company in Ireland.”
In addition, Cereform’s Pat Smyth has announced his retirement and will step down from his position as managing director at the company’s Irish operations.
Smyth has been in the bakery sector for more than 40 years and has held many positions of office in the industry. This included president of the Irish Association of Master Bakers and Institute of Irish Bakers, chairman of the Irish Bakers Benevolent Society and a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Bakers.
Pollard added: “Pat’s retirement marks the end of an era of outstanding service to the Irish baking industry and he thoroughly deserves all the warm tributes from his many friends in the industry.”
