Aldi has overtaken The Co-operative to become Britain’s fifth-largest supermarket chain.

2 Sisters-owned The Pizza Factory has confirmed the loss of a major contract just weeks before a supply deal with Tesco ends.

Tesco is set to compete head-on with discounters as it looks to cut the cost of its own-label products.

Combined sales growth at Lidl and Aldi is at its lowest level in five years – while Tesco is continuing to increase its share of the grocery market.

Growth in discount retailers Lidl and Aldi is being driven by millennials, whose spend on grocery shopping is rising three times faster than that of the overall population, according to Nielsen.

Baketime Ltd has apologised for “any inconvenience” caused after it recalled batches of Aldi, Happy Shopper and Bestway own-label snacks.

Aldi has announced a soar in profits after competitive prices attracted customers to the discounted supermarket.
