British Baker is delighted to announce that a new category has been added to the line-up for the upcoming National Cupcake Championships.

Classic Cupcake of the Year will enable bakers to submit their best classic recipe cupcakes - either vanilla, chocolate or fruit-based.

They can be any size, shape or weight, but it must not be eligible for any of the other categories (e.g. can not be a savoury or use alcohol etc). However don’t delay, entries need to be in by 18 May.

Martyn Leek, editor of British Baker - the organiser of NCW, said: “The Classic Cupcake category gives those people who do not fit the other categories a chance to enter this prestigious competition - and gives entrants the opportunity of being crowned the NCW Champion!

“We have been blown away by the entries for this year’s NCW championship. It really is shaping up to be the best year yet.”

The other categories are: Themed Cupcake of the Year; Free-from cupcake of the Year; Best Cupcake Made with Alcohol; Best Cupcake Handcrafted for Multiple Outlets; Micro-modelled Cupcake of the Year; and Savoury Cupcake of the Year.

As well as winners being announced for each individual category, an overall winner will be crowned National Cupcake Champion at the finals on 2 July.
