Subway is in initial discussions with a sixth form college in Manchester about offering lunch provisions for its students.

A spokesperson for the international sandwich chain, said the headmaster of Parrs Wood High School had contacted Subway after he noticed that a lot of his sixth form students were popping out for a Subway at lunchtime, and wanted to explore options to enable students to purchase the sandwiches on-site.

“It could be as simple as a local franchisee coming into the school with a tray of cold subs, through to something that is closer to an on-site presence. What it won’t be is a full-blown Subway outlet like you see on the high street,” he said.

He added that Subway was not actively pushing its sandwiches into schools, and said that any food supplied would conform to the nutritional standards for school meals.
