Plans for Cornwall’s first pasty drive-thru have fallen through, after it was met with opposition from the local council.
Entrepreneur Ken Cocking of Mylor, had wanted to build the drive-thru at the old Ward Vauxhall Hilltop Garage, located just outside of Helston.
Speaking to West Briton about the potential site, Cocking said: “I’ve put the site on the market and that’s that.
“We thought there was no point in me going on with it. It didn’t go before planning and it has been withdrawn.”
At present, there are no plans to relocate the drive-thru.
The proposed idea had been met with opposition as many expressed concern about access from the A394. Helston Town Council recommended the plans be refused, saying it would hit trade in the town.
Earlier in the year, Helston mayor Jonathon Radford Gaby expressed his support for the venture to This is Cornwall . “Why not – we have drive-thru burger bars and doughnut bars, why not a pasty drive-thru? It sounds like an excellent idea. Any new business in the area has got to be welcomed.”
Cocking, his two sons, Aaron and Gavin, and business partner Mark Christophers had looked for the ideal site to start their venture for the past decade.
The family made their fortune when their West Cornwall Pasty Company was subject to a management buyout worth £30m four years ago.
