An Ashford café business has been fined £800 by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) for not holding Employers Liability (Compulsory Insurance) or ELCI.

An investigation found Ash Catering Limited, trading as Ashford Café, Kent, did not hold the necessary insurance following a complaint.

HSE issued a notice to the company to produce a valid ELCI certified on 27 September 2013, heard Canterbury Magistrates Court this week.

Ash Catering Limited was fined a total £400 and ordered to pay a further £400 in costs after pleading guilty to two breaches of Section 1(1) of the Employers’ Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act 1969.
