The attempted theft of a lorry carrying £15,000-worth of shortbread was aborted after the would-be thieves filled its diesel tank with cleaning fluid.

The lorry and trailer unit were stolen from storage and distribution company Caledonian Logistics on Midmill Industrial Estate in Kintore, Scotland on Saturday night. Four men could be seen filling the tank on CCTV footage, according to the BBC.

They travelled half a mile before the lorry broke down and was later recovered by police officers.

Police Scotland is appealing for witnesses to come forward and reminded business owners to lock all yard areas and take steps towards basic crime prevention.
