German café and bakery concept Bake & Take is set to restart its expansion programme.

M&C Report said that the company is looking to open up to 10 sites in the coming year. British Baker reported last November that German company Backwerk planned to open hundreds of Bake & Take outlets in the UK, after its first store opened in Manchester.

Master franchise partners, Steve Mahon and Robin Page, brought the concept to the UK from Germany. It is a fully self-service bakery and coffee shop, which offers baked goods and complimentary products.

Regarding expansion, Robin Page told M&C Report: “We haven’t progressed at the speed we would have anticipated. The main reason for that is that we are concentrating very much on the corporate side here.

“We are now meeting franchisees on a regular basis. Hopefully we’ll be looking at opening six to 10 stores in the next 12 months.”

He reported that the current site in the Ladysmith Shopping Centre in Ashton-under-Lyne was performing “well”.
