Managing director Colin Miller has built the Northallerton, North Yorkshire company up into a £12m business over 15 years manufacturing ingredients for the brewing industry as well as processed cereals and pulses for animal feed and pet food manufacturers.
Anglia Maltings is based in Great Ryburgh, North Norfolk and has two businesses: Crisp Malting Group has five maltings across East Anglia and Scotland and supplies premium quality malt to brewers and distillers in the UK and worldwide.
Meanwhile, Edme, located on the Essex-Suffolk border, supplies malted, seeded and gluten-free products to bakers, confectioners and food processors. Its 2013 turnover was £124m with profit before tax of £9.5m.
Miller will continue to lead MFP with business development planned within current areas.
“We will develop as part of Anglia Maltings,” Miller told British Baker. “We are not disclosing any plans at this stage, though obviously there will be significant investment from Anglia Maltings. It was a particularly good, complementary fit. There are many synergies between our two companies so it is extremely good news for MFP and we look forward to further investment.”
David Thompson, chief executive of Anglia Maltings, said: “There are excellent opportunities for MFP through the overlap with Crisp Maltings and Edme, and we will be using that to build the services and products we offer to customers.
“Northallerton will also provide a valuable location to serve Crisp’s existing craft brewer customers in the area.”
