Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has invited budding bakers to enter its baking competition to mark the 200th anniversary of the current Lord’s Cricket Ground.

The entrants will have the chance to win afternoon tea and a day in its pastry kitchen, should their recipe make the winning run.

Ten finalists will be selected to bring their cakes to the Davidstow National Village Cup Final at Lord’s, where they will be judged by a tasting panel, including MCC president Mike Gatting and MCC head pastry chef Thierry Besselievre.

Hopeful bakers must submit their recipes with a short explanation of why they should win at www.lords.org/cakebake.

Adult competitors could win an afternoon tea in the famous Long Room at Lord’s, as well as a day in the MCC pastry kitchen with Besselievre.

The winner of the children’s competition will win a baking set and a pastry baking masterclass in the kitchens at Lord’s.

Gatting said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us here at Lord’s to share this famous old ground’s 200th birthday celebrations with cricket fans and baking enthusiasts alike. There are some brilliant prizes on offer, so I would encourage anyone who enjoys baking to have a go.”

Both winners will be announced on the day and will have their pictures and recipes published in The Cricketer magazine.

The closing dates for nominations is 13 August 2014, and children who enter must be 14 or under on 7 September 2014.
