Yorkshire-based Walkers Bakers and Chocolatiers has completed a £150,000 expansion and refurbishment at its Skipton premises.

The ground floor bakery shop has been upgraded and now includes a small café area for up to 15 people, while the main first floor air-conditioned café has been completely transformed with new fixed seating and individual booths catering for up to 40 people.

In addition, a former storage cellar has now been opened up to provide a brand-new chocolate retail shop, with newly created direct access from the bakery.

Walkers also has an established bakery shop in nearby Grassington, though it closed its former chocolate shop in Newmarket Street, Skipton, in May. The business now employs a 24-strong workforce.

Modern feel

Commenting on the expansion at Skipton, founder Rob Walker, said: “While we will always remain a traditional family-run business, we wanted to add a more contemporary and modern feel to the operation – in effect, creating the best of both worlds.”

In a bid to encourage people to call in and have a look at the new set-up, from Monday next week (Nov 17th) and throughout the whole week, Walkers will be running some special one-off offers on chocolates.
