The pub in Inkpen, owned by The Honesty Group, has launched a bakery on-site called The Bakery, which is run by executive baker Robert Rodrigues who makes all the baked goods from scratch daily.
He uses traditional methods and baked goods on offer including croissants (£1.50), pain au raisin (£1.70), Victoria sandwich (£2.50 per slice) and cardamom and coconut cookies (75p). Seven homemade breads are available including a 100% dark rye (£3.50), pain de campagne (£3), sourdough boule (£3) and baguettes (£1).
Four ready-made sandwiches are also offered, such as home-salted beef with pickles (£6) and cheese and chutney with English cheddar on wholemeal bread (£6).
Rodrigues also makes special loaves, which have included a pumpkin sourdough and tomato ciabatta, and plans to introduce a gluten-free savoury range as well hot savoury items.
Romilla Arber, founder of the The Honesty Group, said: “Traditional bread baking is slowly making a comeback, despite the best efforts of big food manufacturers to destroy it. Customers really appreciate the difference in traditionally made artisan bread to the factory made dough and breads made for the supermarkets.
"We don’t use preservatives, chemicals and bleach in our breads and cakes, so I do think they are better for you. They don’t last as long but then they don’t need to as everything disappears pretty quickly.”
The Bakery opens for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea on Tuesdays to Sundays.
