There is no doubt that the calibre of modelling in cake decoration has grown in leaps and bounds over the past three years or so. One of the first cake decorators I came across when moving out to Sydney was Verusca Walker. I contacted her, to ask her if I could include her work in my blog, and am astounded that she has only been working in cake decorating for four years!

Brazilian born, Verusca moved to Australia 12 years ago and is based in Wollongong, South of Sydney. She has qualifications in Fine Art and baking.

What originally stood out for me about her work, was not only the detail she puts into everything, but I love the quirky side of her gothic style cakes, which add such a different slant on a medium which generally in pink and frilly! You must check out some of her designs, which can inspire many a Halloween themed cake!

Verusca regularly teaches for www.bakeboss.com.au in Australia, and some classes are available in Europe, but not in the UK yet, as far as I can tell. In the meantime, you can catch some of her tutorials on www.learncakedecoratingonline.com, and get working on those skills and skulls!
