n Quiznos, the US sandwich chain, has appointed Greg Brenneman, the former Burger King chief executive, as its new president and chief executive. Brenneman left Burger King in April and currently manages TurnWorks, a private equity firm, which has acquired an undisclosed stake in Quiznos.


n Confectionery specialist Thorntons said like-for-like sales at its own stores rose 3.2% in the last four weeks of the 28 weeks to 6 January in a trading update this week. It currently has 580 stores, including 214 franchise outlets.


n Farmhouse Breakfast Week 2007 will run from 21 to 27 January. The campaign, now in its eighth year, aims to highlight the importance of breakfast and the range and quality of regional breakfast produce available in the UK. This year it is encouraging people to get active as part of a healthy lifestyle with the theme "Make Time for It!"


n ADM Milling is offering a price reduction of £1 per bag on Bun & Doughnut mixes and concentrates until the end of March 2007.


n The Food Standards Agency has set up a panel of experts to evaluate research into the impact of front-of-pack nutritional labelling on shopping behaviour. It will agree the specification of the project, which will then go out to open tender. The panel will choose a preferred bidder and oversee the work which is expected to start later in 2007.


n Up to 80 exhibitors have signed up to the new food innovation Pro2Pac show at ExCeL, London, 18 - 21 March, including PFM Packaging, Ravenswood Packaging, Bizerba, Urschel and Air Products.
