A number of bakery brands have created lunar-themed adverts to promote their products, off the back of today’s eclipse.

The hashtag #Eclipse2015 trended on Twitter across the UK, as the first solar eclipse since 1999 was visible throughout Britain and northern Europe.

Blinded by the scale of the landmark event, bakers took to the internet to tweet and share their eclipse-related artwork.

Oreo took this ploy to the next level, by launching its #OreoEclipse campaign. The stunt plays on the eclipse to show life through an ‘Oreo lens’ as the Mondelez-owned brand attempts to shift perceptions of Oreo from a biscuit you can play with, under its Play with Oreo campaign.

The largest scale element of the #Oreoeclipse campaign saw the production of the first-ever translucent cover wrap of The Sun newspaper.

The wrap was printed in black to ’eclipse’ the publication and two eclipse-themed, translucent Oreo ads will also appear in the paper itself.

British Baker has gathered the best of the rest of the eclipse-themed adverts.

Pieminister also got involved with its clever pun: total eclipse of the tart.

Warrens Bakery had some fun with Stephen Hawking’s book, The Universe In A Nutshell.

Perhaps the biggest winner however, was  the Jaffa Cake, as the internet took a nostalgic trip back to that famous Jaffa Cake advert of the late 90s - after being inspired by the eclipse.

The UK will not experience a solar eclipse on this scale again until 2026.
