Mangobean has aggressive expansion plans

Mangobean, the franchised coffee shop operator, has a pipeline of openings planned this year with the goal of achieving an estate of 125 shops. 

According to M&C, sites have been secured in Birmingham, Bolton, York and Harrogate to open this year. Sites in Bromley and Newcastle’s Metro Centre are earmarked for 2016.

There are 22 franchisees signed up and searching for sites and founder Shane Saunders told M&C he expects to have 15 up and running by this time next year. He is looking for sites in areas of high footfall, including high streets and shopping centres. The operators also have an interest in installing units within the education and health sectors.

The most recently opened shop is in Horsham, West Sussex, and marks the company’s fifth. This site runs a more refined menu including frappes, waffles, smoothies and non-alcoholic coffee cocktails, with coffee roasted and baguettes prepared on-site.

Saunders claims to be the most affordable coffee shop franchise in the UK and is looking for more applicants. Mangobean started in 2007 by selling its own branded coffee and equipment to cafés and coffee shops around London and the south-east.
