US-based gluten-free brand Udi’s has expanded a trial of in-store bakery goods from two to four Asda stores as part of a long-term development plan.

As reported in The Grocer, the products aim to offer gluten-free customers greater choice and are cooked in their wrapper to prevent cross-contamination.

Simon Hazlett, UK managing director of Udi’s, said: “In-store bakery can open the door for more artisanal products and short-life lines - some pretty exciting stuff.”

Udi’s also announced it would expand its UK presence in the snacking sector early next year by launching six new lines, including nachos and snack bars. It will also tackle the frozen food market, though it would not say which lines it was considering.
