Waitrose has withdrawn packs of its own-label Stem Ginger Cookies 200g after it was found they contained the supermarket’s Cherry & Almond Cookies 200g.

The error affects packs with a best-before date of 2 April 2016 and poses a risk to those with an allergy to almonds, as it is not a stated ingredient on the packaging.

A later update also confirmed the presence of undeclared sulphur dioxide, which carries a health risk for anyone with a sensitivity to the chemical.

It is the second allergy warning to be issued on biscuits in recent days, with Tesco recalling packs of its own-label Chunky Chocolate Shortcake 175g because of a failure to declare the presence of egg.
