Following severe flooding before Christmas, Tesco re-opened its Carlisle store to customers.

A complete re-fit and the reconvening of 400 redistributed staff has meant that the Cumbria outlet is back on its feet, after being devastated by nearly six feet of water by Storm Desmond in December.

Prior to the reopening, Phil Pearson, store manager, said: “To just get the store back and the community, customers to be coming in and shopping would be great. For the colleagues themselves to have been out over the last seven-and-a-half weeks all over the county, working in various stores, they just want to have a home back.”

Eight weeks after the damage was done, a new petrol station and a newly relaid car park have meant the business can now get back on its feet.
