The producers of The Great British Bake Off have threatened a charity baking competition in Cardiff with legal action.

Lawyers representing the makers of The Great British Bake Off have warned a Cardiff charity competition, modelled on the BBC programme, that they are breaching copyright.

Wayne Courtney has organised The Great Roath Bake Off in Cardiff for six years, but has now been sent a legal letter from producer Love Productions, warning that it breaches the copyright of the show.

Courtney was forced to make a public statement distancing himself from the popular BBC baking competition, and might need to change the name.

Courtney said: “We are a charity event where people bring cakes to a venue where they get judged. No baking takes place at the venue - our event is very different from the TV show."

Locals and Shipley MP Philip Davies have accused the production company of being heavy-handed, branding the action “unnecessary”.

Love Productions was unavailable for comment.
