Described as “Netflix for food lovers”, the baker’s app, Simply Good Food TV, has been shortlisted for The Guardian’s Start-up of the Year award.

Simply Good Food TV is the world’s first dedicated mobile app food TV channel. It contains food TV programmes from all over the world, including simple how-to instructions and food ideas.

Peter Sidwell, TV chef and judge on ITV’s Britain’s Best Bakery, author, executive chef and cookery school owner, launched his Simply Good Food TV app less than a year ago. Since then, it has gained over 47,000 downloads, and is on track to hit over 100,000 users this year.

Sidwell said he wanted to create an app that offered a home for great content that was easily accessible to all. The team at Simply Good Food TV is working with names such as Will Torrent, Saira Hamilton and Mich Turner, as well as many of the Great British Bake Off contestants.

Sidwell said: “To be shortlisted after just 11 months is a wonderful achievement. The app is going from strength to strength with over 47,000 downloads so far, and we are working with a range of chefs to create delicious new foodie content. The app is reflecting the change in consumer habits and with the aim of becoming the food lovers Netflix.”

The app is available for free to download on all Apple and Android devices.
