Finalists bask in the post-BIA limelight
Finalists and winners in the Baking Industry Awards have been in the media spotlight since the ceremony at London’s Hilton Park Lane hotel last week.
The 2016 Awards, attended by some 800 people from across the industry, were hosted by former England rugby international Matt Dawson.
Among the newspaper reports out so far is one from Dunstable Today on Signature Flatbreads having won the Bakery Manufacturer of the Year category, sponsored by Sonneveld.
It reported that “a bakery business launched in Dunstable last year by two brothers has been crowned Britain’s Bakery Manufacturer of the Year”.
The Speciality Bread Product of the Year, a category sponsored by Bakels, was won by Jurassic Coast Sourdough from Patisserie Mark Bennett in Poole, Dorset.

The prize-winning Jurassic Sourdough is made with beer, cheddar and chilli all made in the local Purbecks. The loaf is made in the shape of an ammonite fossil.

The Baking Industry Awards are the headline annual event in the UK bakery calendar and provide a stage for acknowledging the skills and achievements of bakers and related trades.
Next year’s Baking Industry Awards are set to take place on 6 September.
