Patisserie Holdings-owned Patisserie Valerie is rumoured to be in talks to buy the Maison Blanc chain.

Although both businesses have declined to comment, British Baker understands they are in advanced discussions following a strategic review of the Maison Blanc operation.

In September, Maison Blanc appointed property firm Davis Coffer Lyons as specialist advisors as part of a review of its current trading locations, including its production facility at Park Royal in London.

Launched by chef Raymond Blanc in 1981, the chain sells speciality breads, Viennoiserie, savouries and patisserie from 13 sites including Hampstead, Royal Park, Muswell Hill and Fulham.

The patisserie is made in the Maison Blanc kitchens in London and delivered daily to the stores, while the croissants and pastries are proved and baked-off in-store.

In Patisserie Holdings’ end-of-year update, which was released last week (see page 11), executive chairman Luke Johnson said the firm’s strategy remained organic growth, but that it was “well- positioned to make acquisitions should opportunities arise”.

Sales at Patisserie Holdings have topped £100m for the first time as the business continues to grow its chain of bakery stores and cafés.

Patisserie Holdings this week told British Baker: “We currently wish not to comment” with regards to Maison Blanc.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Maison Blanc said: “Maison Blanc are unable to confirm any specific negotiations regarding the company’s production facilities and retail outlets at this stage.”
