Sandwiches are no longer on the menu at Shrewsbury and Telford hospitals after bosses attempted to delay payments to its sandwich supplier.

Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust has had a number of financial challenges and asked its current sandwich supplier to temporarily alter the timescale of payments until the next financial year.

Simon Wright, chief executive of Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, said the suppliers had not accepted these terms.

“We are now exploring new suppliers who can better manage slightly longer payment terms, he said.

“The temporary issue with sandwich supplies has been addressed by providing alternatives and at no time have any patients not had access to meals or choice.

“At both of our main hospital sites, there will be sufficient hot meals available for patients on wards as an alternative to sandwich choices.”
