GALLERY: Day one of the Finale Coupe du Monde de la Patisserie

The UK Pastry Team competed in day one of the finals of the biannual Coupe du Monde de la Patisserie in Lyon, France – and British Baker was there to watch the action unfold.
Below is their Buffet Showpiece Presentation, alongside those of the other eleven competitors that day. This was the last of four rounds, the first three being Chocolate Entremets, Frozen Fruit Dessert and Plated Desserts.
After day two, when 12 more countries will compete in the same four rounds, the final results will be announced – we will of course keep you updated.
The UK team, made up of Chris Zammit, Andrew Blas, Florian Poirot and team president Martin Chiffers, chose a Marvel theme this year.
The team must finish in the top five to gain automatic qualification into the next Coupe du Monde de la Patisserie – their sixth placing in 2015 is their best ranking to date, which they achieved despite their ice sculpture dramatically breaking in half.
