British Baker can announce that a new promotional event called National Craft Bakers’ Week is to take place from 8-13 June this year, in support of the indepen-dent craft baker. It has been designed to celebrate the specialist skills and the pivotal role craft bakers hold in their communities.

Specially organised activities with local schools and communities, as well as the national media, will promote the ’The Shop That Never Sleeps’, with a focus on product and price promotions.

"What’s the first local shop to open, and often the last to close?" asked Nick Harris, managing director at BFP Wholesale. "It’s your local baker, who may have started his day before dawn, winter or summer. Britain’s craft baker is the heartbeat of every community - fuelling the nation, creating breads, rolls and sandwiches for the working day, and cakes and biscuits that make good food fun. We’re very pleased to be supporting ’The Shop That Never Sleeps’ campaign."

The objectives of the week are to raise the profile of each independent craft baker, to educate bakers on the benefits of self-promotion, to raise footfall during the week - and hopefully thereafter - and show that working in the craft sector is a rewarding career choice.

The week is sponsored by the National Association of Master Bakers, BakeMark UK, BAKO, BFP Wholesale, British Bakels, British Baker magazine, Macphie, Marriages Millers, Puratos and Reynards.

More details on the week will follow soon.
