British Society of Baking (BSB) chairman Paul Turner has unveiled plans for the organisation to work more closely with bakery students in the future.
BSB arranged for University College Birmingham bakery and patisserie students to visit equipment supplier Baker Perkins at its site in Peterborough.
The visit was designed to help students understand the process of the engineering industry, where they attended presentations on Baker Perkins’ design and equipment development and were given a tour of the factory and innovation centre.
British Baker caught up with Turner, who explained the reasons for working with bakery students and how it will benefit the BSB.
We asked bakery students William Bowen and Hannah Parry to give their views on the tour and what their baking aspirations are when they graduate. Parry told British Baker that she had secured a job at the Centre of Excellence at AB Mauri in September 2017.
