Allied Bakeries has unveiled a £25m investment at its West Bromwich bakery.

The bread plant has undergone extensive refurbishment, benefiting from a new building, as well as ingredient handling technology and electrical and mechanical improvements. This, Allied said, will deliver increased productivity and greater energy efficiency.

The investment marks one of the final projects in the bakery manufacturer’s £210m nationwide capital expenditure programme.

The site will produce Allied Bakeries’ Kingsmill brand, as well as a variety of customer-branded products. According to the business, the site has the capacity to produce 8,500 loaves an hour.

John Jackson, Midlands regional general manager, Allied Bakeries, said: “Investment and innovation have long been a real focus for Allied Bakeries as we look to the long term, and we’re excited to have finished the plant investment programme at West Bromwich – a programme that was started in 2011 with the installation of a new roll plant.”

Jackson added that West Bromwich is part of Allied’s continuing drive to future-proof its business infrastructure.
