Eastender to attend Bakers’ Fair Autumn

Bakers’ Fair Autumn, organised by British Baker, welcomes special guest Shaun Williamson at this year’s event.

Williamson is known best for his role as Barry in British soap opera Eastenders, set in the fictional Albert Square, as well as regularly appearing on Ricky Gervais’ hit TV series Extras. He will take to the stage at the second Bakers’ Fair of the year at the Yorkshire Event Centre in Harrogate on Sunday 7 October.

Following the Bakers’ Fair Summer event at Kempton Park Racecourse in June, the Autumn Fair will feature guest speakers presenting and demonstrating live on stage, providing practical and business advice in a programme of presentations.

Martyn Leek, editor of British Baker, said: “This is the second of the Bakers’ Fair events for the year and it promises to pack a punch when it comes to useful hints and tips. Visitors will be able to watch a range of live demonstrations, while providing ample time and opportunity to speak to equipment manufacturers, ingredients suppliers and fellow bakers face-to-face.

The event, which is run in conjunction with Butchers’ Fair, will also play host to the judging of the ninth Richemont Club of Great Britain’s Annual Competition. Bakers are urged to enter an array of categories, including bread loaves, sausage rolls, celebration cakes, scones, Danish pastries and pork pies.

The competition includes a special category for young bakers, aged up to 21 years old, as well as a Christmas-themed class for bakers to submit products such as Christmas cake, Christmas pudding and a chocolate log.

The Live Challenge Cup will also take place at the event, and will be competed for by invited teams from the Richemont Club of Great Britain and the National Association of Master Bakers.

Trevor Mooney, competition secretary at Richemont and sales director at Chatwins Bakery in Cheshire, told British Baker: “It is great to be involved in these competitions and put something back into the industry. We would really encourage bakers and their staff to come forward, show us their skills and celebrate their craft.”

Entries into the Richemont Club Competition must be received no later than Friday 14 September 2012.

This year's Bakers’ Fair Autumn includes a range of exhibitors from across the bakery and food-to-go industry, who will be showcasing new and existing products to improve product quality and business performance.
