New naan concept lands in Tesco

Global Fine Foods is launching its chilled Naanster range of folded naans into 50 Tesco stores this month.

The Leicester-based family-run business – formerly The Samosa Company – will introduce its new food-to-go concept into the supermarket giant's UK stores in the East Midlands, across Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire on 15 October.

Launched at the Food & Drink Expo at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre earlier this year, Naansters contain pilau rice, a sweet mango chutney and a choice of vegetable tikka, chicken tikka or balti chicken curry. 

Naynesh Karia, sales director of Global Fine Foods, said: “We spent a long time developing the product as we wanted to ensure the naan bread was absolutely right. We wanted the bread to remain soft, light and fluffy, even after being microwaved. 

“This is not a fad. We truly believe this is the next big thing and is here to stay.”

She added that Naanster will also be landing on the shelves of Nisa-Today and Palmer & Harvey outlets in November.

The firm also produced unbranded versions of the Naanster products for the London 2012 Olympic Games, as well as being in discussions with major football clubs, train and airline operators and retailers about carrying the range.

In addition, Global Fine Foods will be launching a series of new Naanster varieties in the new year, including Hot Lime Chicken and Donar Kebab already confirmed for January 2013.

Global Fine Foods develops a range of products for its own foodservice brand, including Chinese, Thai, Indian, Tex-mex, Spanish and French cuisine, along with its dedicated Jules Harvey brand for the retail sector.
