Higgidy doubles production for pies

Pie and quiche maker Higgidy has invested £2m in doubling its production capacity, as it seeks to ramp up turnover.

The Shoreham, West Sussex-based business, headed up by James and Camilla Footitt, has signed a deal to take-over its neighbouring units, which will see its kitchen production space more than double to 25,000sq ft.

The new units will be linked to their existing facility, which will require significant upgrades and plant investment, according to the business.

The additional space will allow the company to develop its handmade pie and quiche offering, as well as extend its listings in all the major multiples. It also forms part of the business’ aim to double its current turnover in the next four years.

Higgidy’s turnover has increased from £5.6m to £12.4m in the past three years.

The business said it felt had managed to maintain growth, in the tough trading climate, as the brand was “attracting younger more affluent consumers into a sector that has traditionally been dominated by lower value products”.
