Lavazza to target 400+ locations

30 January, 2013

Italian coffee brand Lavazza has revealed plans to open up to 400 shops in the UK, over the next decade.

The coffee shops would be opened in a new store format for the UK – Lavazza Espression. There is currently only one standalone unit, in Manchester’s Trafford Centre, but property consultant Cushman & Wakefield has just been appointed to advise on the UK roll-out.

The company will shortly be opening outlets in Derby, Leeds, Newbury, and London, with 50 shops planned for Greater London in the next three years.

Lavazza’s first Espression coffee shop to open in the capital will be on Villiers Street in April, followed by one on Cannon Street in June.

Launched in 2007, in Turin, Lavazza Espression outlets serve a variety of hot drinks, Italian food, including sandwiches, paninis, pizzas and salad, and more than 40 non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages.

Matt Ilingworth, partner at Cushman & Wakefield, said: “Lavazza Espression is a new and exciting concept which will give UK customers a real taste and experience of Italy on their doorstep. The concept really offers something unique amongst other coffee brands and we see it becoming a favourite on our high street and in shopping centres throughout the UK.”

The roll-out in the UK forms part of a wider international expansion plan, which includes openings in North America, Western and Eastern Europe, Far and Middle East and South America.
