Darby cycles for Macmillan Cancer Support: 4/3/2013

Premier’s chief executive Gavin Darby revealed he would be taking part in the 36th Argus event in South Africa on 10 March – the world’s largest individually-timed cycle race – to raise funds for the company’s new charity partner. The company has said it aims to fund 10,000 cancer nursing hours over the next two years.

New look for British Sandwich Association: 4/3/2013

Ahead of British Sandwich Week (12-18 May), the organisation has revealed a new-look logo featuring a red, white and blue colour scheme and Union Jack image. The launch of the new identity follows a year of celebration for the BSA and marks the 250th anniversary of the sandwich.

Patisserie buys Paul’s transport outlets: 5/3/2013

The Birmingham-based business and BB75 retailer revealed this week that it had acquired seven sites based at London railway stations from rival bakery firm Paul. Patisserie Valerie said it took over the sites last Thursday (28 February) at locations such as Euston, Marylebone, Paddington, Waterloo and Victoria, in addition to two outlets in St Pancras.

Hinchliffe’s celebrates Pie Week with giant pastries: 5/3/2013

To celebrate British Pie Week (4-10 March), Nell Weavill from the Netherton bakery spent four hours creating two oversized pies featuring two designs – a Union Jack and a Yorkshire Rose. Each pie used 15lb of pork meat, and went on display in its farm shop during the week.

BIA winner on stage at Bakers' Fair: 6/3/2013

Sandra Monger, last year's Celebration Cake Maker of the Year, is heading up the line-up of stage presentations at the Bakers' and Butchers' Spring Fair. Taking place on Sunday 7 April at the Three Counties Showground in Worcestershire, Monger will also be joined by Dawn Foods on the live demo stage.

Free-from brand to make UK retail debut: 7/3/2013

Irish free-from brand BFree secured its first significant retail listing with Asda, and revealed it would be launching in 434 of the supermarket business' stores in the UK this April. The company's high-fibre, 99-calorie, wheat-, gluten-, dairy- and egg-free multigrain wrap will land on shelves next month.
