Langs of London launches with ten-tier cake

New bespoke cake company, Langs of London, launched yesterday at The Bloomsbury Hotel, London.

Guests were invited to witness founder, and British Baker blogger, Charlotte Green’s 10-tiered wedding cake, costing around £5,000 to produce and decorated with 500 individually handcrafted sugar flowers. The cake itself took 150 man-hours to create.

It weighed in excess of 20kg, stood at over one metre in height, and was transported to the venue in 12 separate boxes.

Visitors were provided with a selection of bite-sized cakes by Green: fruit cake, raspberry and white chocolate, chocolate and chocolate rum buttercream, Sicilian lemon, English lavender and vanilla rose.

Langs of London was initially formed in 2011, when Green baked an intricate sculpted cake for Falkner House School’s charity bake sale. In January of this year, the company progressed, winning ‘Best New Cake Designer’ for London at the 2013 Wedding Industry Experts Awards.

Speaking to British Baker about the launch, Green said: “I wanted to officially launch in September because that’s the start of the wedding season. With the 10-tier cake, I wanted to create something classic, elegant and timeless. That's my style.”
