Border Biscuits announces baking winner

26 September, 2013

A Glasgow architectural assistant has won a Border Biscuits competition to have her product sold in Tesco.

Kirsty Montgomery, 27, won the Border Biscuit Big Baking Bonanza 2013 with her chocolate, peanut and fudge cookies.

The biscuits will go on sale in Tesco from late October. Packaging will feature an illustration of Montgomery, drawn by Japanese artist Yuko Inoue.

Entries were judged by former Great British Bake Off finalist James Morton, as well as members of the Border Biscuits baking team and the Tesco Local sourcing team.

Montgomery received a £2,000 cash prize, and a place on a baking course.

She said: “I’m thrilled to win the Big Baking Bonanza and I cannot believe my recipe will go on sale in Tesco and that my picture will be on the Border Biscuits box. I love baking and my recipe is a firm favourite with all my friends and family, so we’ll definitely be buying a few packs.”

Morton added: “Kirsty’s recipe is really outstanding and the ingredients blend extremely well together, with a delicious balance of textures. I’ve enjoyed being involved with the Big Baking Bonanza and judging the entries was great, there are some really impressive bakers out there.”
