Harris+Hoole eyes expansion

12 December, 2013

Harris+Hoole, the Tesco-backed coffee shop venture, is looking into further expansion in the New Year, it has been reported.

Published by British Baker’s sister title, M&C Report, the artisan coffee chain reportedly has sites in mind in Berkshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex and Kent. These include Ely, Slough, Maidstone, Sevenoaks, Braintree and Great Dunmow for 2014.

It was also reported that the company plans to add openings in Hemel Hempstead, Royston and Potters Bars.

Having just launched a shop in Aylesbury, Nick Tolley, co-founder of Harris+Hoole, said: “Harris+Hoole takes an opportunistic approach to expansion and when we see a site where we think we can really nail the proposition, we will go for it.

“We’re looking at a number of sites for next year, but cannot confirm at this point which specific sites we will be progressing in 2014.”

Earlier this month, the company took second place in the UK and Ireland category at this year’s Allegra European Coffee awards.

Andrew Tolley, co-founder of the business, was also recognised at the awards for his outstanding contribution to the coffee industry.

Speaking to British Baker, he said: “It’s a great honour to be given this award alongside some of the most innovative and talented people in the European coffee industry. Although it’s an individual award, it reflects the hard work and dedication of everyone at Harris+Hoole.

“Our team are always looking for new things we can do to make sure our customers enjoy the best coffee available on the high street. I hope this spurs us on to continue doing that for years to come.”
