Making James’s Life Worth Living
A huge number of bakers have already registered for this year’s National Doughnut Week, sponsored by BakeMark UK, which runs from May 6-13. The funds you raise will make a real difference to the lives of children and their families. As we reported last week, four years ago, James from Hertfordshire, was a bright 15-year-old, who lived life to the full. He had hoped to go to university and dreamed of becoming a pilot. Here is James’s story, told by his mother, Maureen:“One night, the phone rang. It was the intensive care unit at Peterborough Hospital to say James had been admitted. My first reaction was disbelief. James was at an Air Training Corps camp. I didn’t know then that three of his friends had been killed in a coach crash, which left James with severe injuries and brain damage. He was transferred to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, where he underwent a craniotomy to remove part of his skull. Thankfully, he survived, but he was unable to do anything for himself and was very frustrated.“He was then transferred to The Children’s Trust for an eight-month intensive rehabilitation programme. Addenbrooke’s saved my son’s life, but The Children’s Trust made it worth living. James is now studying at horticultural college and is able to enjoy sports again.”To register, email Christopher Freeman at Dunns Bakery on christopher@dunns-bakery.co.uk or call 020 8340 1614 or 07776 480032.LOOK WHO’S REGISTERED!Since last week the following bakers have pledged to support National Doughnut Week...
