Hit for Little Big Loaf

Associated British Foods reported that Allied Bakeries had achieved "considerable success" with its Little Big Loaf, a large-slice 400g loaf launched last autumn. In its pre-close trading statement the firm said the higher wheat costs will put pressure on margins next year.

Growth for Chevler

Backed by a 525,000 investment from Finance Wales, baking cases manufacturer Chevler has secured several contracts with distributors and commercial bakeries in continental Europe and North America. The firm's sales rose by 15% in this financial year.

Cheese is top toastie

The simple cheese toastie is still the nation's favourite toasted sandwich, according to a survey of 2,800 people by Breville. Six out of 10 Brits said the plain cheese toastie was their favourite toasted sandwich, with 20% preferring their cheese toastie with ham and one in 10 opting for a tuna and cheese toastie as their favourite.
