Dublin firm Kooky Dough has signed a deal with Tesco to supply a range of own-brand cookie dough mixes.

Its chilled product packaged in a clear tub, cut into 12 individually pieces of dough in chocolate chip and white chocolate & cranberry varieties is now sold in 285 stores in the UK and 57 stores in Ireland,

The 18-month-old firm began supplying 24 Tesco Ireland stores in November last year with four of its branded doughs; this is the first time Tesco UK and Ireland has featured an own-brand cookie dough line, said founder Graham Clarke. "It appeals to people who don't have time to bake and also to those who like baking at home." He added: "We'd like to push our brand as a premium product and go into more retailers, as well as increase the number of Tesco stores we have listings in."

Clarke and business partner Sophie Morris featured on the Dragons' Den TV programme in Ireland recently, but failed to get the E70,000 for a 10% share of the company they were looking for. Said Clarke: "It was a great opportunity to showcase the product."

Former bank workers, they launched into their first outlet in March last year and now sell in 65 outlets, including Dunnes Stores, Superquinn and Tesco Ireland. The contract will create 10 new jobs.
