50/50 line extended

Kingsmill has launched a range of new 50/50 products, which it said will bring "healthier white varieties to the breads of the world category". Kingsmill 50/50 Wraps, Kingsmill Pockets, available in both 50/50 and white varieties, and Kingsmill 50/50 Deli Softs pre-sliced flat rolls have been introduced in a bid for the brand to capitalise on the success of its 50/50 loaf.

Olympic challenge

The Topping Pie Company of Doncaster has launched an Olympic baking contest for local schoolchildren. Budding bakers will be invited to create an Olympic-themed pie to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic Games. Pupils will have to make their own pastry from scratch, come up with a name for the pie, and provide the judging panel with marketing materials to support their entry.

Buzzing Beehive

The Beehive Bakery owner Stacie Stewart has credited BBC's Masterchef with launching her career. She made it to the semi-finals last year, and says her business is now thriving. She has also just launched The Beehive Bakery Vintage Tea Party experience, where she will drive to your house in a vintage VW camper van and serve party guests an array of cakes and sandwiches.

Hope for finalist

A Belfast man, who aspires to own his own bakery, is one of five finalists in a US contest called Dockers' Wear the Pants Project, which would see the winner walk away with $100,000 to start a business and a year's supply of Dockers pants, according to the Press Herald. Braden Gow hopes to start a wood-fired clay oven bakery making naturally leavened bread to sell at farmers markets and local co-ops in the Belfast area.
