Bristol-based delivery service Cheese Posties has marked Valentine’s Day with cheese toasties inspired by red velvet cupcakes.

The toasties, which comprise red velvet red bread and mascarpone cheese, are delivered in a Valentine’s hamper with a personalised letter and collectable ‘Toast Trump’ card. They are accompanied by a ‘magic bag’, allowing consumers to toast the product in a toaster.

The limited-edition product - priced at £5.49 each - has proved a sell-out hit with consumers, with 200 of the 500 toasties produced sold in the first hour alone.

Cheese Posties founder Dave Rotheroe told British Baker this was the first time the company had produced a limited-edition product.

“The overwhelming success has resulted in plans for a regular, direct-to-recipient ordering option, competing with the likes of Interflora and Moonpig. The Red Velvet may show its face once again, but we can’t confirm that as yet.”

Cheese Posties started in 2015 in order to fill the gap in the market between full meal kit subscriptions, similar to Hello Fresh, and letterbox snack subscriptions, such as Graze.

The online delivery service has a menu of 30 different toastie flavours, including cheesy garlic bread, strawberry shortcake and Jaffa cakes.
