Major airline British Airways (BA) has confirmed that it will scrap its free food and drink on its short flights and will offer passengers the Marks & Spencer snacks and sandwich range.

The pair were in talks to join forces earlier this month and have now finalised the details, according to its official website.

The retailer’s range will be introduced for flights in and out of Heathrow and Gatwick airport from  11 January 2017, followed by Stansted and London City airport in the summer.

A statement on BA’s website said: “British Airways is proud to be partnering with Marks & Spencer to offer an exciting new menu on all short-haul flights to and from London Heathrow and London Gatwick.

“With fresh and responsibly sourced ingredients, specially selected for their taste at high altitude, you can now look forward to enjoying your M&S favourites while in the air, offering you more choice and a wide selection of flavours you love from the ‘M&S on board’ menu.”

Some of the items on the menu will include a cheese ploughmans, priced at £3, and mini oat biscuits, priced at £1.10.
