Brook Food Processing Equipment has donated almost £2,000 to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) station at Minehead.

The Williton-based equipment supplier is marking its 25th anniversary year by donating £25 for every customer order of £1,000 and over to charities.

It is selecting a different charity each month to receive a donation, and this month presented RNLI MInehead with £1,925, its highest monthly donation to date. In previous months, Brook Food has made donations to St Margaret’s Hospice and Mind Somerset.

“It has been amazing to donate to this local cause,” said Brook Food group marketing director Ann Wells.

“This lifeboat station serves our community and tourists at sea and along the coast with an invaluable lifeline. To donate to our local RNLI is a pleasure, it’s the selfless actions of those involved with the service that represents true heroism, and to support this with funds to help their work is an honour.”

The RNLI said Brook Food’s donation would go towards rebuilding the lifeboat house, which was originally constructed in 1901.

“Although extended and modified several times, it is in dire need of an extensive rebuild, both to achieve a better operational service and in terms of facilities for the crew,” explained Minehead RNLI chairman Bryan Stoner.

“The national appeals and anonymous bequests are vital, but for crew members the knowledge that local individuals and local firms are so ready to support them is very rewarding and is not forgotten."
