Sales have rocketed for Hampshire-based Odiham Cake Company after it appeared on BBC2’s The Millionaire’s Gift Guide.

British cake designer Gareth Jones, owner of Odiham, was featured on the BBC2 documentary earlier this month, when he made a £10,000 cake for an episode of the programme, providing a glimpse into how the super-rich throw a children’s party.

Since Jones appeared on the show, demand for these one-of-a-kind creations at Odiham Cake Company has trebled.

The colossal £10,000 cake was a replica of private stately home Aynhoe Park, in Oxfordshire. It took 200 hours to make and included 10 kilograms of sugar, 10kg of flour, 10kg of butter, 8kg of Belgium chocolate, 200 eggs and 40kg of fondant icing, weighing an impressive 90 kg.

Each wing of the palatial cake model was made with a different sponge and filling, including light fruit and mulled wine, toffee spiced apple, chocolate cake and gingerbread.

Jones said: “The response from the BBC2 documentary has been incredible. We were hopeful that the programme would have a positive effect on sales, but we weren’t expecting to close our books for January less than a week into the new year, especially when post-Christmas can be a quiet time.”
