New flavours join gourmet popcorn line

Gourmet popcorn maker Joe and Seph's has added savoury flavours to its snack portfolio for the first time. Available in 90g bags, the range now includes: goat's cheese and black pepper; mature Irish cheddar; and cheddar, sweet topping and savoury seasoning.

Iconic detection for Fortress

Fortress Technology has devised a new high-performance metal detector, ICON. It features a new touchscreen front panel, which has been designed to be 'future-proof', as well as having the ability to be easily retrofitted to older models in Fortress' Phantom series. The firm said the new detector delivers fast accurate detection of metal contaminants and detailed data collection. Information such as product configurations, reject and faults are stored in an onboard database and are accessible via a USB or wired ethernet. The new model comes with multilevel password protection, which controls access to specific areas of the system for different users.

DS brings in breadsticks offering

Gluten- and wheat-free brand Dietary Specials (DS gluten-free) has launched a new appetiser, Breadsticks. The gluten-free product will be available in 67 Asda stores nationwide and is aimed at capitalising on the growing free-from crackers and savoury biscuit sector.

Chevler colours wraps

Chevler has introduced a range of coloured tulip muffin wraps, following the recent launch of coloured cupcake cases, in a "convenient pack size" more suitable for the craft baker and smaller-scale producers. The new muffin cases, in red, yellow and orange, with a black variety to launch soon, and a pink case to launch later this summer, join the existing brown wrap.

Swedish firm takes 'tarta' approach for UK

Swedish bakery Almondy launched a new Swedish almond 'tarta' at the recent Caffè Culture show. Almondy Toblerone is a new take on the firm's classic almond tarta Swedish for cake topped with pieces of Toblerone. The base of the cake is covered with a layer of rich chocolate cream and smooth milk chocolate mousse, coated with chunks of Toblerone and then covered with a milk chocolate topping.

Rank Hovis brings out new craft flour line

Rank Hovis has launched a new range of flours, Rank Hovis Originals. For the past two years, the miller has been working with customers to develop products that best fit the needs of the craft baker. The firm said its bakers have used these grades and baked hundreds of loaves with them. The flours were benchmarked and the data was reviewed to ensure the different grades were performing to expectations.

Fayrefield finds cocoa alternative

Fayrefield Foodtec has developed a new cocoa replacer, which it hopes will help combat recent spiralling cocoa prices. Baketec 10632 is made from natural ingredients and can be used in a variety of applications, where cocoa powder would normally be used, for example in sponge cakes, cookies, or hot chocolate sauces, said the firm.

Herza opts for micro-chocs

German chocolate producer Herza Schokolade has introduced micro-size chocolate pieces to its product portfolio.
