Lancashire-based Cherrytree Bakery has invested close to £1m in new technology and expanding its premises to meet demand from a major coffee shop chain.

Pub vending machine

A pub in Staffordshire has installed a vending machine selling staples like bread, milk, eggs, bacon and butter. The Raddle Inn in at Hollington installed the machine outside the pub after failing to get planning permission to have a local shop at the site.

Martyn Leek to head up BB

British Baker is delighted to announce that Martyn Leek has been appointed editor of the magazine. Leek, currently deputy editor of sister title Meat Trades Journal, will start his new role on 30 August. His previous roles include news editor on M&C Report. He takes over from Sylvia Macdonald who left the magazine last month, but will return as an editorial consultant in November.

New Agency Workers Regulations imminent

New Agency Workers Regulations are to come into force on 1 October 2011 across the UK. Under the new rules, temporary agency workers will be eligible for equal treatment after 12 weeks of working on an assignment.
