James Hall & Co, the northern Spar wholesaler, has seen sales of its cream cakes soar since opening its Huntcoat factory in 2013.
The company, which acquired Clayton Park Bakery in 2011, said retail sales of its cream cakes had reached £1.3m since the launch of the products.
In a bid to boost the range further, the wholesaler has added four new cake products to its range, including a twin-pack Cream Crisp; a two-pack Victoria Sponge; a twin-pack variant of the existing Manchester Tart; and a limited-edition Lemon Cream Bun to celebrate Easter.
It now supplies around 22,000 packs of cream cakes a week for the SPAR business alone, aswell as supplying sandwich shops.
Peter Dodding, James Hall & Co sales and marketing director, said: “Our foray into cream cakes has been a huge success, thanks to our Spar retailers and their incredible support.
“It’s important that we now keep up this momentum, and help our retailers grow their sales even further, with four new modern, fresh and quality products to add to the range.”
The retailer has praised the success of the Huntcoat factory, which produced 80,000 packs of cream cakes in just 10 weeks, including 30,000 single chocolate éclairs. This is the equivalent of more than 2.5 miles of éclairs.
